What Is a CaHA Biostimulator?

CaHA is a biocompatible, mineral-like compound with a composition similar to calcium found naturally in the body. In injectable treatments, microscopic CaHA particles are suspended in a gel carrier.

Depending on how the product is prepared and placed, CaHA may provide two complementary effects:     
  • ‍  ‍Immediate structural support: The gel carrier can provide an initial volumising or contouring effect.
  • Progressive biostimulation: CaHA particles create a scaffold that encourages fibroblast activity and the production of collagen and elastin.
The gel carrier is gradually absorbed, while the CaHA particles are broken down naturally over time. As collagen remodelling is gradual, improvements in skin firmness and quality may continue to develop after treatment.

CaHA Filler vs Collagen Biostimulator: What Is the Difference?

The terms “CaHA filler” and “CaHA biostimulator” are sometimes used interchangeably, but the intended treatment effect can differ.

  • When placed in a more concentrated form, CaHA may be used to provide support, definition or volume in selected areas. When diluted or hyperdiluted, it can be distributed across a wider area with a greater emphasis on improving skin quality rather than adding obvious volume.

    The most appropriate preparation depends on:

    • Facial structure and degree of volume loss

    • Desired level of definition

    • Whether the priority is contour, skin quality or both

    A medical assessment is essential because CaHA cannot be planned in exactly the same way as a hyaluronic acid filler.

  • Diluted CaHA is used to improve skin quality and the appearance of fine, crepey texture.

  • CaHA may be used to restore volume and soften the prominence of tendons and veins on the backs of the hands in suitable adult patients.

Is There Downtime After CaHA Treatment?

Temporary effects may include:

  • Swelling

  • Bruising

  • Redness

These effects are usually temporary, although their duration varies. Your doctor will provide aftercare instructions based on the treatment performed. Cocktail Skin Injections: Can CaHA be combined with other injectables?


In selected patients, Dr Jolenda may perform a cocktail CaHA-skinbooster or CaHA-filler approach, where calcium hydroxylapatite is combined with compatible regenerative ingredients during the same treatment session.  Using Dr Jolenda’s personalised technique, CaHA may be combined with hyaluronic acid fillers in the same treatment plan to address different concerns, for example, structural support, contouring and collagen stimulation. The products are placed strategically in appropriate areas and tissue planes rather than physically mixed together. Suitability is determined after a medical assessment.

Not every product is designed to be physically mixed within the same syringe, and compatibility depends on the specific formulation and manufacturer's recommendations. In many cases, the treatments are administered sequentially rather than mixed together.

  • Although both contain hyaluronic acid, they serve different purposes.

    Dermal fillers are designed to restore facial volume, improve contours, and provide structural support.

    Hyaluronic acid skinboosters are designed primarily to improve skin hydration and skin quality with little to no volumising effect..

  • CaHA treatment does not necessarily involve adding substantial volume. In selected protocols, diluted CaHA is used primarily for skin-quality improvement.

  • CaHA cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase in the way many hyaluronic acid fillers can. Conservative treatment planning and appropriate product placement are especially important.

  • The number of sessions varies. Some patients may be treated in one session, while others may benefit from staged treatment or later maintenance. Dr Jolenda will advise you after assessing your anatomy and treatment goals.

  • CaHA may not be appropriate for individuals with active skin infections, certain allergies or medical conditions, or unrealistic expectations. It is also not suitable for every treatment area. A consultation is required to determine suitability.

  • Some structural improvement may be visible soon after treatment, while collagen-related changes develop more gradually. Longevity varies according to:
